Union Meeting on Tuesday
To Discuss the Hatsugai-sensei Issue

Following listening to the tape-recorded conversation between Profs. Yoshihiko Hatsugai and Susumu Kawashima on Friday, January 12, the Union is slatedto hold
another extraordinary general membership meeting at the same Room 202PNon the Pharmaceutical Sciences campus at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23.
Agenda: Hatsugi-san's resignation.
The meeting comes after a number of newspaper stories on the chaos the threatened resignation had caused and a Shukan Shincho article in the January 25 issue.
The weekly magazine (circulation: 519,190) chose to write a terse and accurate headline: "The Boss (read Dictator) Who Kicked Out Presidential Candidate by Threatening with Sword."
The boss's behavior was likened to that of yakuza: "He surpasses the yakuza in threatening using a sword."
The one-page story in the Shincho--probably the first national medium to report the Hatsugai issue--also summarized the chairman's "quick promotions" to the helm as well as the alleged purchase by Hokuriku University of land lots from (the Kitamoto) family's companies suffering heavy debts.
